Announcement of the winner of the 2025 EUonAIR Innovation Award on Responsible AI

It is with great pleasure that we announce the winner of the EUonAIR Innovation Award on Responsible AI: Mareike Lisker, a young researcher at HTW Berlin. Mareike pursues her doctorate under the joint supervision of Prof. Helena Mihaljević (HTW Berlin) and Prof. Anne Lauscher (University of Hamburg).

Mareike’s research interests are placed at the intersection of AI, social media, ethics and platform governance - a combination highly aligned with the theme of responsible AI innovation. She investigates content moderation practices on decentralized social platforms (especially the so-called Fediverse), analyzing policies, moderation practices, norms and ethics. Mareike has published an article on that topic at the 19th International AAAI Conference on Web and Social Media. She has also published a paper on the use of Large Language Models for generating debunking information that counters disinformation, at the 9th Workshop on Online Abuse and Harms (WOAH) that is part of the ACL anthology. Mareike was appointed a Junior‐Fellow by the Gesellschaft für Informatik e.V. (GI), the German association of professional computer scientists. Mareike’s research shows great ambition and potential, while at the same time remaining aware of the responsibilities of researchers who use AI methods.

Congratulations, Mareike!
