EUonAIR Supports International Collaboration and Social Innovation Through BCN Digital Challenge

The EUonAIR European University Alliance continues to strengthen collaboration between universities, cities, and innovation ecosystems across Europe through initiatives that promote entrepreneurship, social impact, and international cooperation.

This commitment was recently reflected in the 14th edition of the BCN Digital Challenge, a university entrepreneurship competition focused on generating meaningful social impact. Organised by students from the Entrepreneurs Club of Universitat CEU Abat Oliba, this year’s edition featured the active involvement of EUonAIR and its partner and collaborator Citilab.

The initiative aimed to empower students to develop innovative solutions to real-world social challenges, connect academic talent with third-sector organisations and local entrepreneurial ecosystems, and foster scalable innovation with measurable societal impact.

Participants worked on challenges proposed by organisations including Cáritas, Aredi, and Citilab, developing practical ideas designed to improve the lives of vulnerable communities. Guided by the principle of “entrepreneurship with impact,” students demonstrated how innovative thinking can lead to tangible, socially driven solutions.

The competition also received support from sponsors such as Codorníu and L’Oréal Professionnel Paris.

Through EUonAIR, the event expanded its international dimension by welcoming participation from students and partner institutions across Europe. This first international edition included contributions from Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences, HTW Berlin, Luxembourg School of Business, and International European University, an associated EUonAIR partner from Ukraine.

The participation of universities from different countries reinforced the cross-border and collaborative nature of the challenge, highlighting EUonAIR’s role in building a connected, AI-driven European learning ecosystem.

Initiatives such as the BCN Digital Challenge demonstrate how cooperation between universities, organisations, entrepreneurs, and cities can drive innovation and create positive social change across Europe.
