Talent Mobility 2.0: The Post-Territorial University — Blessing, Chance, or Burden?
On October 7, 2025, Prof. Dr. Izabela Grabowska delivered the inaugural lecture for Academic Year 2025/2026 at Kozminski University, Warsaw, exploring one of the most pressing questions facing European higher education today.
Academic mobility has long been central to European education—enabling transnational knowledge transfer and democratization of learning. But the COVID-19 pandemic, digital acceleration, and shifting geopolitical realities have fundamentally transformed how we learn, collaborate, and move across borders.
🎯 Three dimensions shaping mobility today:
Virtual Mobility: Expanding access through digital technologies, while confronting digital exclusion and the loss of relational depth
Blended Mobility: Offering flexible formats that combine remote and physical learning, demanding new institutional competencies
Physical Mobility: Essential for deep cultural immersion, yet increasingly constrained by environmental, economic, and political factors
🌍 The EUonAIR approach:
As a European University Alliance, we're addressing these challenges by leveraging responsible AI to redefine mobility—not just as moving people, but as sharing knowledge resources, academic values, and infrastructure within sustainable networks.
💭 The central question Prof. Grabowska poses:
Will Talent Mobility 2.0 become an instrument of a more equitable and connected knowledge society, or will it perpetuate existing inequalities, transforming universities from spaces of openness into structures of selection and exclusion?
This is the question that will define the future of higher education in Europe—and it resonates strongly with the mission of #EUonAIR, where we are working across Europe to connect institutions, foster mobility, and launch innovative initiatives.
