The University of Piraeus Highlights EUonAIr’s Role in European Higher Education at Key National EUI Conference

On Friday, 28 November 2025, a major national event on the role of Greek Higher Education Institutions within the European Higher Education Area was held by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and National Technical University of Athens. The event brought together representatives from Greek universities participating in European University Alliances initiative, creating an important platform for reflecting on Greece’s strategic engagement with the future of European higher education.

Within this high-level context, the EUonAIr University Alliance was strongly represented by the University of Piraeus, marking a significant milestone for the alliance’s visibility and strategic positioning. The University of Piraeus contributed three key interventions delivered by Prof. Spyros Roukanas, Vice-Rector for Administration, Academics and Student Support, Prof. Maria Psillaki, Scientific Coordinator of EUonAIr at UniPi, and Dr. Christina Kontogoulidou, Head of the International Relations Office. Their participation highlighted EUonAIr’s mission, progress, and aspirations within the European alliances landscape.

Through these contributions, EUonAIr had the opportunity to present its vision for high-quality, human-centered AI education, its emerging frameworks for mobility and joint learning opportunities, and its commitment to innovation and collaboration. The presence of its representatives allowed the alliance to articulate its approach to building joint academic pathways, strengthening digital infrastructures, and fostering transnational cooperation, areas central to the ongoing transformation of European higher education.

This participation was especially important for the alliance, as it positioned EUonAIr among established European University Alliances represented at the event. It offered a crucial moment to demonstrate the alliance’s readiness to contribute to national and European policy discussions, engage with key stakeholders, and align its development with evolving higher education strategies in Greece. The University of Piraeus, through its role in active stakeholder engagement, reinforced the alliance’s strategic direction and showcased the depth of expertise and commitment that EUonAIr brings to the European Higher Education Area.

The event further encouraged dialogue on the integration of European Alliances into the long-term strategies of Greek universities, on themes such as accreditation, governance, digital transformation, research infrastructures, and sustainability. Within this broader conversation, EUonAIr’s presence played a meaningful role in shaping the national perspective on internationalisation and innovation in higher education.

Overall, the participation of the University of Piraeus in this conference strengthens the alliance’s national and European presence, enhances its visibility among key decision-making bodies, and reaffirms its commitment to building a collaborative, forward-looking academic community.
