Three inspiring days in Lugano for the EUonAIR Symposium on the Ethics of Generative AI in Education and Research

Three inspiring days in Lugano for the EUonAIR Symposium on the Ethics of Generative AI in Education and Research organized by University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland.

From 8 to 10 June, members of the EUonAIR Alliance, invited speakers, researchers, educators, institutional representatives, and students came together to discuss how AI is reshaping education and research—and how this transformation can be guided responsibly.

We were honoured to open the symposium with an insightful contribution from Lucilla Sioli, Director of the EU AI Office at DG CONNECT, European Commission, who set the stage for our discussions on responsible AI governance and adoption in Europe.

Across talks, roundtables, and informal exchanges, we explored AI literacy, research integrity, institutional policy, teaching practices, and the responsible use of generative AI.

Our sincere thanks go to our invited speakers from academia: Tim Coughlan, Gerd Kortemeyer, Tony Ross-Hellauer, Duygu Bektik, Bart Rienties, Charlotte Axelsson, Federico Cabitza, Mads Sørensen and Silvia Milano.

We also warmly thank all EUonAIR members and participants for their trust, engagement, and contributions.

A special thank you goes to the organising team: Alessandro Facchini, Andrea Ferrario, Alessia Invernizzi, Elena Gianinazzi and Fabrizio Fornara.

We look forward to continuing our collaboration to advance the EUonAIR framework for the responsible use of AI and the development of AI policies in education and research.
