University of Piraeus advances the dialogue on Inclusive Education and Equality
In early March 2026, UniPi organised the initiative “Equality in the First Person”, coordinated by its Gender Equality and Anti-Discrimination Committee. The initiative invited students, researchers, faculty members and administrative staff to collectively reflect on issues of equality, diversity and discrimination in everyday academic and social life.
Universities play a crucial role in shaping not only knowledge but also the values that guide democratic societies. Within the framework of the EUonAIR alliance, the University of Piraeus(UniPi) contributes to this mission by fostering knowledge sharing initiatives, such as open dialogues on inclusive participation and community engagement in the academic environment.
The “Equality in the First Person” agenda functioned as a participatory platform encouraging members of the university community to share experiences, exchange perspectives and explore how equality can be actively integrated into the culture of the institution. The programme included film screenings, discussions, expert contributions and participatory activities focused on equality, inclusion and everyday forms of discrimination. Through dialogue, artistic expression and interaction with civil society organizations, participants engaged in discussions that linked personal experiences with broader social and institutional challenges related to inclusion and equal opportunities.
Such initiatives reflect key priorities of the EUonAIR alliance, which aims to strengthen common European values and create inclusive educational environments across its partner universities. By encouraging critical thinking, participation and community-based learning, universities can help cultivate a generation of students and researchers capable of addressing complex societal challenges while contributing to a more inclusive and collaborative Europe.
Through actions that connect education, dialogue and community engagement, UniPi contributes to the EUonAIr alliance’s broader vision of transforming higher education. Together, we support local university communities actively contribute to the development of inclusive, participatory and value-driven learning ecosystems within the European higher education area.
